The characters felt flat, especially the main character who goes on through multiple books to have many an adventure. However, the real power is held by a group of “magelords” who are the pupeteers to the king. Elminster in Hell Forgotten Realms: Greenwood should have had a better writer, and with more distance and less love of the character, write this. Next, and I don’t recall what brings him to this, but he goes to Cormanthyr. Every part of the book was strong but by the end I felt as though the story was dragging a bit and I was more than happy to reach the ending.
I wanted to puke. And now, as readers, we are really sad for the young shepard.

Seriously, either Ed Greenwood has way too much time on his hands, or people will simply read anything. The author was trying to show all of the trials that he had to go through to become this badass wizard of all wizards and I didn’t get it.
